Yesterday??? S**t , the shop i work in today still has the remanants of it! We don't use it anymore, but the cat walk (used to oil the bearings on the drive shaft) and drive shaft are still in place.

No doubt there are ways to repair those belts Remnants of those flat belts are handy to have in your shop's salvage bin

In the mid '70s a small town KS auto repair shop still had all master shaft stuff overhead but not in use. Still had a tire tube valcanizer & acetylene generator both still used. A fire since then destroyed the shop

Nice video...The young people of today,I suspect would not grasp.How dangerous it was back then.I tell young machinists of today.That back in the early times.One single engine would run the entire shop.With belts an pulleys running through the entire shop.I never worked in a shop like that.But I worked in a place that had a old Brown&Sharpe screw machine that was converted.But still had the pulley on it.Workers back then had to worry about the belt breaking or slipping to..Wonderful video.

Learn to fire one of these engines then come back here and you'll understand why the comment was funny. 100 pounds is low for that engine. The Prony brake operator was chastising the fireman for being at such a low pressure.

that's PSI in the boiler.
Put that atop the piston head, multiplied by the surface area of the piston in square inches, you get thousands of pounds of pressure on the crank.

It is a massively powerful system.
