    A majority of those who listened to this debate on radio and had no access to television (a substantial percentage at the time) held that it was Nixon who won this debate.

    Listening to these responses, it is clear Nixon was the more substantive, experienced candidate. However, JFK held his own rather well on the policy issues here, and seemed to be more imaginitive and bold in his approach. That, coupled with Nixon's uncomfortable overall demeanour, looks to have been the difference.

    I also say that i can't agree. the cuba action strategy was well drawn out. the execution was the failure. The failure was Kennedy's. It was his naive thinking that they could invade cuba without american force being known and because it was known to pull out at the last minute to let people be slaughtered was a disgrace. but it was Khrushchev's opinion from their meeting in vienna that kennedy was naive and easily intimidated. wouldn't have been with nixon.
