I had my eyes done not to wear glasses any more. The entire surgery has been taped.
This is how it is done on one eye (only half of the movie but you get to see all of how it happens).

  • The bad news: ...

The bad news: You'll have to wait roughly 5 years. This is because your vision has to be stable for at least two years. You are still evolving from 10+ to 8+ end keeping to go.

The good news: by then the technology will have improved even more. Less chances for complications, better fine tuning of the correction.

Just be patient. I cannot tell the price for Sweden though. Here in Belgium I paid 2.700,- EUR for both eyes with wavefront guided correction.

  • Soft contacts but ...

Soft contacts but that is long ago, probably nowadays soft contacts are even softer. Nonetheless they were already almost as thin and soft as baby skin :-)
The problem is not if they are soft or not when you get dust in the eye with contacts. Dust ALWAYS S**ks with contacts, no matter what contacts.

  • I did wear contacts ...

I did wear contacts years ago. It's worse than glasses (more work and hassle) and more painful than this LASIK operation (like when you have a dust particle in the eye with contacts or when they dry out in hot sunny weather).

    Not at all.
Only 2-4 days after you have at some points the annoying feeling like you have an eyebrow in the eye. But the feeling is much less strong.

  • I chatted a bit ...

I chatted a bit with the doctor about equipment and comparatives about some people that had severe complications et all. My surgeon uses each blade to cut the flap only once. In other words he used two different new blades on me and threw them away. Some surgeons use the same blade up to five times in a row. Then you have these troubles like the guy here on YouTube that had a metal particle left in his cornea.

People: make sure your doctor has years of experience ans is not a cheapo clumsy guy.

  • Just came back from ...

Just came back from a final check now four weeks after the LASIK operation.
My left eye has a refraction of all zeroes now (I.e. perfect sight) the right eye has tiny bits of the lowest correction that undo one another (from memory -0.25 and +0.25). I could read easily and quickly the smallest text he had on his charts.
Overall I am a very happy customer. I now see better than before WITH glasses.

I want to stress the fact that I have had it done in Belgium. Not in the U.S.A.

I could drive the next day. One of my colleagues needed up to a week to see well enough.
If you are still unable to see good enough to drive after two weeks then I suggest to check with your doctor.

  • Depends on how your ...

Depends on how your eyes will evolve. I heard many people saying that after roughly ten years they sometimes have to start wearing glasses again.
You have to see this as shaping your cornea like a permanent contact lens.
After some time eventually your sight will change. With old age almost everybody gets presbyopia, this means that you'll have to wear reading glasses anyway.
If you are young enough you can re-operate every ten years which roughly boils down to the same cost as glasses.
