  • Unbalanced cars are ...

Unbalanced cars are great. Torque is massive fun. Check your messages for why I don't hate Japanese cars. My question is- does it run on pump gas, and is it a diesel or a gasoline engine? Overpowered street cars are fun too.

Oh, I see.... I thought you were talking classics! New cars are way underpowered, except for the Corvette and Viper. Sorry, I was thinking a different car....

  • ive seen such 7 ...

ive seen such 7 second "street" cars. lots of money invested and turboed out the ass. once you get into high hp, you have to replace lots of parts for the engine to hold all of that power. having a strong enough drivetrain to get all that power to the wheels is a problem too. realistically though, you dont need more than 300hp for street driving, and 500 is more than enough. any more than that on street tires is pretty much pointless.

  • A guy I know ran 12 ...

A guy I know ran 12 PSI of boost on the stock bottom end of my engine. That's pretty close to the HP rating I'm shooting for. In some states, a funny car would actually be street legal. There's a video of a 6-second big block ford Mustang on here somewhere that drives to McDonalds.... Stock rods aren't hard to make power on, as long as you don't rev too high. There are street driven pump gas 7 second muscle cars....

  • and since you seem ...

and since you seem to like horribly unbalanced cars with twice the torque as the hp, check the WRC rally celica. 300hp and 650ft/lb, from a 2 liter no less. so tell me again why you hate japanese cars?

  • Factory numbers ...

Factory numbers from the 70's tend to be low from what is actually there. I know that my car was factory rated at 190HP and 360 lb-ft of torque. On a fresh rebuild, as it would come from the factory, this engine dyno's at 300HP and 500 lb-ft of torque. I doubt it would put that much to the rear wheels, as the transmissions on these cars are really overbuilt, but they're some of the strongest ever made.

  • a funny car is ...

a funny car is hardly street legal. and i seriously doubt the rods and pistons on your caddy would hold up to 1200hp. the 2jz from a Toyota Supra however has been proven to effectively hold 800-900hp on stock internals. show me an american engine that can hold 4x the origional hp on stock internals. and there are street legal, even street DRIVEN supras pushing 2000hp. show me a street driven US engine that can hold 10x the factory hp.

  • I meant what I ...

I meant what I would need as far as engine mechanical work. Crank on this car will hold up to it, along with all the other parts. I might need another carb, but that's a maybe. The rest of the car would have to be race built. Heads just need to flow better. Street driven doesn't mean pump gas. You could drive a 3000HP funny car on the street, but it wouldn't run on pump gas. There's a 6 second street legal Camaro, but it doesn't run on pump gas.

  • Aluminum blocks ...

Aluminum blocks might not be able to handle it, but with reinforce sleeves they might. Has your friend dyno'd his Daytona Charger, or is that the numbers from the factory? It's not just the engine that's lighter- the whole car is lighter than that truck. The truck probably weighs about 1000# more than that car.

  • actually theres ...

actually theres some street driven civics that make 1000+hp with 2ltr engines (street driven) so i doubt a much more advanced 2.2liter is limited to 600. theres a guy with a street driven 2000+hp supra out there, and thats from a 3 liter. and your gonna need a LOT more than heads and turbos to get to 1200. try heads, turbos, fuel pumps, intercooler, injectors, rods and cylinders, cam, clutch, maybe even a new crank and driveshaft, plus other stuff i dont have enough room to list.

  • actually, if you ...

actually, if you want to be specific, my friend's daytona charger makes 350hp, while a tundra iforce v8 makes around 385. and the reason it is lighter is because its a pushrod design. however, pushrods are less reliable than and OHC layout (which is where the jap engines weight comes from). btw i seriously doubt some of the new aluminum block engines can support 800hp+.
