moral law does not need to be justified by the existence of god. moral law exists due to our nature of being human beings. when we get hurt we fear of getting hurt and therefore it is easy to distinguish what is good and what is evil. we do not wish to be hurt and that is why there are laws. and the god concept is not a necessity to determine what is good and what is evil.

Also, in the case of Haiti, their forefathers have known naught but mistreatment at the hands of foreign nations, going back to being kidnapped from Africa to become slaves. The nations chiefly responsible for their mistreatment, USA and France, are quite affluent. YOU are doing okay because you probably live in a wealthy country. If you didn't...
It's because of the sins of there forefathers. I'm very sure that if any body calls on him they will eventually be delivered from their suffering. Worked for me. Suffering would only happen in this life unless they ended up in hell (my belief not forcing it on anyone).
By K13Z4 [Affiliate User] 1220962292 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAnd the little children in Haiti are suffering because they have sinned? Good to know god doesn't let the little buggers get away just because they can't talk yet.
It's not a matter of believing, it's a matter of a valid argument. The innocent suffering and a merciful all-powerful god are contradictory concepts, no?
The fact that we are still alive is mercy. Any one alive today could have been dead by now. And as I said, suffering is a result of sin So as long as there is sin in the world then there will be suffering. Most people do sin knowingly or unknowingly so even those abiding by the law can still suffer in some way if they stumble. We all go thru trials and tribulations no matter what coz we've sinned at least once. I could go on and on but the chances are that you probably wont believe me anyway.

By Brandt761 [Affiliate User] 1220871795 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou probably have been told this before about the suffering thing but I'll say it anyway. God is merciful but the reason why there is suffering is because of sin. Sin brings death into the world and because of greed people die as a result. He sent down his son so he could intercede and bare our sins on the cross on our behalf so that we didn't have to (that's what I believe I'm not forcing my beliefs on anyone). Seems like mercy to me.

Actually, that logic, if continued, implies either many deities or a god who isn't all merciful, just look at all the suffering out there.

By pratt2181 [Affiliate User] 1220730741 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHis argument about good and evil doesn't really work, because he's skated over another question which is wheather we received our moral compass from god, or wheather we choose and develop our own moral code. If you agree with the 2nd, then his argument doesn't work and the harvard student was right.
