Wow,this is amazing. I'd heard of baby sign language before, but have never seen it in action. I'm thinking now of taking us AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) because I think it will be really helpful for me when I become a mother, and also in my nursing career, as you could use sign language to communicate with stroke victims who have lost the power of speech. I'm off to watch some more of your videos now!

amazing

ur baby is so smart!!
me and my mom taught my 3 younger siblings how to do the basics
such as please thank you, more and all done. Thanks for sharing. When I have my kids I will definitly use sign language! Thanks!!! <3
Thank you :-) I learned sign language when I was in teaches' college, I continued to learn it throughout my teaching career and still continue to learn it! My business partner is Deaf and I really want my daughter to be fluent in it which is why I continue to learn. I just LOVE the language. I love your story! Thanks for sharing :-)
Laura
My parents are deaf so i grew up with ASL as a second-language. I am now the mother of a 3 yr. old girl who signs also. Since she can't finger spell yet she tries to imitate it to talk to her grandparents. Its quite funny, my parents said I did the same thing before I learned how to finger spell. I also think thats why I excelled in reading and spelling in school. God bless you and Fireese she is adorable and very intelligent. She is lucky to have such a good mom. BTW how did you learn sign?
By SuperMommy2004 [Affiliate User] 1209424659 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI started teaching Fireese the alphabet really early. She just liked looking at my hands move. They won't pick it up right away but they will pick it up faster than if you don't sign it. Fireese has a love of letters now and wants to know their sounds and how words are formed. I think this is because her early grasp of the alphabet. They just love learning at this age, it's a great time for them to pick things up. :-)

Again, it is up to you if you want to correct the water sign. We drink water so I think it's fine. But if you wanted to change it I don't think it would be a problem. And yes, I am a huge advocate of teaching all ASL signs. There is no reason to make up signs to make it easier for babies, babies can do so much more than we think :-)
By SmartHandsCA [Affiliate User] 1209386481 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat makes sense. Thank you so much.I am soexcited. After watching your video,I realized that it is BETTER to teach ASL. The book I have has two versions.
Also,I made a mistake of teaching her sign "drink" for "water"(W). Is it okay to correct her sign language? She has been using that sign for 2 to 3 months already.
I didn't know that I can teach her the alphabet this early. Isn't it hard to teach a 12 mo old child those things which require very small motor skills? I will try to do it, though.
It is up to you. Sign language doesn't delay speech so I never worried about teaching her signs for words she already knew. Because babies take in language on the left side of their brains as a sound and take in sign language on the right side of their brains as an image I knew that I was giving her two places to recall her words. My daughter now speaks in full sentences and we still sign with her. I highly recommend keeping up with the alphabet. It can really help them learn their letters.
By SmartHandsCA [Affiliate User] 1209214728 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI agree, this isn't a 'trick' that I have got her to perform. I just wanted to show people what babies are capable of (and I don't quiz her in our everyday life, I just wanted to capture what she knows on video). I do think all babies are capable of more than we think :-)
By SmartHandsCA [Affiliate User] 1209214548 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI am teaching my 12 month old baby sign language. It is great! I hope to show videos.
Anyway,is it still advisable to teach her sign language for things or people that she can say like (for daddy), dada? I figured, that since the goal of sign language is to eventually teach them to speak, I don't teach her the sign for daddy and eat (she says "ammm"). What do you advise?
this is not cute or amazing! i think this is so human & shouldn't be perceived as a "trick." all babies are capable of this, but we as parnets & grand parents are so uninformfed about the amazing potential just lurking in our babies minds & spirits!!!

By iluvuhhtube [Affiliate User] 1208819987 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis is so cute. I've been trying to teach my son sign language since he was a few months old. He knows a few signs, but not as much as your daughter. Of course, I haven't had as much time to dedicate to teaching him as I would like.
By trustnoone86 [Affiliate User] 1208547844 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI wish I had learned that young. I didn't get to signing until my senior year in high school. I hope to take more classes in college now.
