    Minor correction: Cass Elliot was never named Cassandra. She was born Ellen Naomi Cohen and adopted the name Cass (not Cassandra) in high school, possibly inspired by the actress Peggy Cass. She took the surname Elliot sometime later, in memory of a friend who had died.
