I recently got Native Instruments FM8 software synth and I've been getting some good sounds for Midi Guitar with it. Using Ableton Live 6 I am able to load (and arm for recording) six instances of FM8. That way I can play the synth in a natural guitar-like manner. What I mean is that I can bend one string, sending a pitchbend message for one string (one midi channel) without that message bending the pitch of what's happening on all the other strings. It seems to work rather well. I thought that it might be of interest to other midi guitarists.

    I installed (router+horizontal drill press) a Roland GK-KIT. I generate midi data with a Roland GR-30 into my own home-built custom PC(3.2GHz Intel, two monitors, 3GB ram, 4 HD's).

There's a lower priced guitar-MIDI converter you can get nowadays... It's not made for hexaphonic pickups, just regular humbuckers or something similar. There's a video for it on YouTube somewhere.

  • I'm running a ...

I'm running a custom installed Roland GK-Kit split into a Roland VG-88 (for guitar sounds), a Roland GR-30 (for midi data generation). I custom-built my own computer (3.2GHz Intel, 3Gb Ram, 4 internal, 1 external HD's 1.58TB total storage). Digital interface is just a SB Audigy, works for me. I typically run at 7ms latency with either Creative ASIO or ASIO4All. I run Cakewalk Sonar 8 Producer or Ableton Live 6. Ableton is more stable but Sonar's midi manipulation is far superior.
