USA: A Christian Nation? Guess Again...

Timothy Dwight wrote in 1798: "Religion and liberty are the meat and drink of the body politic. Withdraw one of them and it dies...Without religion we may possibly retain the freedom of savages, but not the freedom of New England...If our religion were gone, our state of society would perish with it and nothing would be left worth defending."

Daniel Webster: "If we and our posterity...live always in the fear of God and shall respect His Commandments...we may have the highest hopes of the future fortunes of our country....But if we...neglect religious instruction and authority; violate the rules of eternal justice, trifle with the injunctions of morality, and recklessly destroy the constitution which holds us together, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity."

President Washington wrote to John Carroll, March 1790: "Your fellow-citizens will not forget the patriotic part which you took in the accomplishment of their Revolution...May the members of your society in America, animated alone by the pure spirit of Christianity...enjoy every temporal and spiritual felicity."

And muslim principals, and druid principals, and naturalism principles and pagan principles, and hindu principles, and baha'i principles, and zorastrian principles, and buhdist principles and .....

New York University Professor Emeritus Patricia Bonomi, in her article "The Middle Colonies as the Birthplace of American Religious Pluralism" wrote: "The colonists were about 98 percent Protestant."

Upon signing the Declaration of Independence, Samuel Adams stated: "This day, I trust, the reign of political protestantism will commence." The 56 signers were mostly Protestant, with a notable exception being Catholic Charles Carroll of Maryland.

I didn't see anything in that quote about being a Xian nation. Yes, the nation was founded upon the supposition that God gave us liberty, but that's a long way from being a Christian nation. Sorry, bud, you won't find it.

Just because all these men were Christians doesn't mean the USA was established as a Christian nation.

Ask yourself one question, why do most of these men never appear in public school history books?Answer, because no one would be able to make the false claim that this was not a Christian nation.

Thomas Jefferson, in his "Notes on the State of Virginia," 1781, wrote: God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God?

Benjamin Franklin' wrote in his "Maxims and Morals": Freedom is not a gift bestowed upon us by other men, but a right that belongs to us by the laws of God.

Samuel Adams wrote in "The Rights of the Colonists," 1772: The right to freedom being the gift of God Almighty ... may best be understood by reading and carefully studying the institutions of The Great Law Giver and the Head of the Christian Church.
