    Yes thats true in general you want your hips square. But in this move for some people (myself included) if your hips are perfectly squared then the move can result in lower back pain. As long as your leg is directly behind you and the hips are facing forward you'll still get a very good stretch.

    You'd get a better stretch at 5:54 if you put the front leg so that the bent knee makes a 90 degree angle, and you square your hips (not just the shoulders are supposed to face forward, but the hips as well)
