I think mike was originally a jazz guitarist first. you can hear that in various songs (a certain shade of green acoustic) so I'm guessing thats why he holds it like that.

Yea,I play Classical also. After you play like that for awhile it becomes your natural stance and it's actually a lot comfortable then just having it sit on your lap. To me atleast.

like for me i used to have a gibson and i would do it like u described u would but then i bought this jackson dxmg dinky and its shape is way diffferent and its just easier to play like hes holding it and after awhile it gets into habit
thats how i hold all my guitars now
its just personal preference

i just notice how mike put his guitar on his left side or left lap.. usually we put it on the right.. its too uncomfortable to me when i do that..

they should've used an electric acoustic instead of mic'ing that one, it sounds horrible with this song.
