    well, lemonballs, the fact is you don't have to string all 12 strings on a 12er, you can also string it as a regular six string, making a 12er a much more versatile acoustic in my opinion. Only problem is, the neck is wider, so you have to have big hands to do this on a regular basis.

                        I like to play it in G and teach it in G, once you know it, put the capo anywhere you'd like to match your vocal range--which is the real reason capo's are used.

                          JT's original features the capo on the 2nd fret, but the fingerings are EXACTLY the same whether you have the capo on 2nd fret or OPEN, it doesn't matter except for the pitch

                          if you absolutely NEED to play with the recording of James Taylor's, then you'll need to put the capo on 2nd

                          finally the pronunciation of the capo, according to Webster's Dictionary, is both KAH-po & KAY-po, both are correct.
