The main problem brother, is mankind's nature. We all are very good shots and good aim. We all back up our brother when we create our respective empire or defend it. We celebrate too much, today at least, our arrogance and it's creations, rather than universal priority for humanity and independence from oil/coal for another thing :) Peace to you- (p.s. The main problem, IMHO, always was from Europe with its eternal "Campaign to the East" ("Drang nach Osten"). But everything changes, I hope these tragedies are in the past.

I think it is very important for all humanity to stay as multicultural as we are now. Globalisation shouldn't destroy difference in culturies.

The majority of "Buffer zones" were 'acquired' absolutely voluntary (especially in Middle Asia, Ukrain and in Caucasus, except for Chechnia, yes it is an old problem), but ofcourse gains also took place.

Yes, people are mostly very similar in our instinctive nature (to live, to have children, to have sex;), not to kill), but human instincts are rather weak (unlike animals). They can be suppressed by a person. This is a prerogative of moral rules. These rules are different in different environment and in different culturies.

Miraclepd, I agree that all peoples should not apply their morals on others. Regardless, we are all so very similar creatures in human nature. I would be critical however, of anyone, to claim to speak for 'All the people' in their respective nation. Also, I would disagree about Russian geographical weakness as you claim. It has massive North arctic, pacific and over centuries, has 'acquired' substantial 'buffer zones'. Hence, some recent insecurity. Mir

Just imagine: Every century for last 700 years Russia was in real danger of disapearing as a country and as a nation. We have no mountains or oceans on our boards. Everybody could come rob and kill us. We always were to have strong, centralised government. And all people unite around it. No matter who represents it: Tsar, Dictator or President. This is our way to survive on our Earth. Don't try to apply your moral to Russians - we are different.
