Wes Anderson's homage to Buckaroo Banzai's end credit sequence with David Bowie's "Queen Bitch" as the ending theme. Enjoy! =D

I love the fact that Bowie was the main soundtrack to the whole movie, and that it ends with this song.

  • i only realised ...

i only realised there now that the forward march towards the camera is an homage to the ending buckaroo banzai, but i couldnt see the film ending any differently, as the whoe film is about loss and the right notion to move forwar from the loss of a loved one but still keep their spirit with you, i think thats what the final march during the credits symbolises, steeve's loss of his 'may-be-son' and his life affirming ability to move on with ned's spirit still with him, "this is an adventure"

  • Anderson uses this ...

Anderson uses this device often in his films. It's not unlike a curtain call in theater, the characters apear in one final segement where they are neither actor nor character, hence Ned alive and Steve's wife warmth. They're out of character but not totally. Check out the end of Rushmore, it's pretty much the same idea.

Reminds me of the season 2 finale of Deadwood where all the character's put aside their differances and just enjoy a nice evening. I wonder where it all started.

  • i've studied this ...

i've studied this movie in film class.

the life aquatic is an existential film which means that it is either life affirming or life denying.

the life aquatic is an existential life affirming film, because it teaches that death happens but we MOVE FORWARD (as in the march) and NED'S spirit is STILL with them. this whole movie is about SYMBOLISM.
