These children of Tamil Origin were born and raised in the US where their natural language is English because it is taught and spoken in the school and outside. They rarely meet other Tamil children in the middle of their school week. If they live in big cities, they get a chance to meet other Tamil Children at a Tamil gathering or festival. Even there, they tend to speak in English because they have to make lot of effort to speak in Tamil. So their only source of learning Tamil is their parents and watching Tamil movies. In addition, there are weekend Tamil schools (1-2 hour classes) run by volunteers or local Tamil Sangam and they teach how to read and write in formal Tamil. In spite of all these odds, these children take pride in being identified as Tamil as you can see from this discussion.
