This piece by Debussy sounds to me like a mix of a waterfall and a fluid dream. Debussy is easily my favorite composer in the impressionist era. When I'm playing Debussy I try to linger and enjoy the beautiful moments, as that was the idea in this style as far as i'm aware of. The bass didn't seem to get picked up very well in this recording. It sounded much richer while i was sitting there playing this, I made a few mistakes, but overall i don't think it's HORRIBLE. Hopefully you enjoy this ^_^

~~~~~~If you're trying to learn Debussy's First Arabesque, and you're having trouble with the triplet polyrhythm, take a look at my piano lesson #20 here's the link
  • Sorry about the ...
    Sorry about the rant there! Negitive comments can get to you sometimes!
    Anyway. I suggest actually learning the RH notes for the 3 Vs 2 sections first as they will take the longest to master use my lesson #20 if you're having trouble with the polyrhthms. Then once they're memorized hands seperate with all the articulation you want, then SLOWLY put it hands together. When you play it, try to let your hands feel like butter, move your arms and let them carry you through the piece playing relaxed
    Thanks! It's nice to hear that it was expressive because i truely was putting my heart and soul into this piece. I just don't play this piece horribly slow. This is a senor level piece not a beginner piece. I was playing the piece from the tempo markings from the score, and it was creticted by 2 master's level musicians AND a doctorate. They all loved it. ^_^
  • That sounded really ...
    That sounded really lovely and TOTALLY expressive to me. I was annoyed when i read people saying it wasn't expressive *scowl*. I also had a question if you have time to answer...How did you go about learning this specific piece, because i have just started it myself - Did you learn the entire left or right hand first? or learn it hands together straight off? or practise just 2 bars with both hands seperately and then put them together before moving to the next two bars? Thanks, Sounds great!!!
  • No offence but I ...
    No offence but I agree...I wish I could handle the technical stuff as well as you did but I think - whether the microphone is the problem or not - that the musicality could sing out more. tho the rubato works really well, even when the score says 'stringendo' (or whatever it said),it doesn't mean that you have to zoom on. I'm sure when you recorded it, it wasn't that harsh, but perhaps the microphone idk some of the chords in the middle sections sounded slightly too brisk?liked the ending.
  • I'm sorry, but I ...
    I'm sorry, but I didn't feel like there was enough soul to the music. Yes, technically you are good, somewhat, although you rush through a lot of places where it would be good to linger and really make the audience listen and appreicate the music, and your fingers are too rigid and rough on the keys.
    There just wasn't enough soul, sorry; it sounded more like a march to me than a piece of a dazy dream.
