Jeffrey Buttle, the reigning Canadian men's champion, skated a brilliant, error-free short program Friday afternoon at the Pacific Coliseum to take a commanding lead over the rest of the 18-man field at the 2008 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships.

Buttle - the 25-year-old from Smooth Rock Falls, Ont., who was supposed to be in peril here against a gang of young and talented guns - landed a triple flip, triple-toe combination, a triple Axel and a triple Lutz to go with the impressive array of spins and footwork that have put him on the world's most prestigious podiums.

  • i absolutely love ...

i absolutely love jeffrey buttle!! but i mean, patrick's skating skills and flow are equal to jeffs. so when patrick landed more jumps, it was clear patrick should have been the new champion

and hey come on, jeff's coach even said part of the reason he won worlds was because patrick beat him, so I'm glad patrick chan won :)!

  • i think jeff ...

i think jeff should've won instead of patrick i mean sure patrick did do more jumps but there's no denying it, jeff's amazing the way he just flows on the ice it's just so beautiful to watch him skate. sure patrick might've landed more difficult jumps but come on jeff is clearly better

  • If he can do two ...

If he can do two quad salchows (he has one planned for Four Continents) and his other jumps cleanly, he has a great chance of winning the World Championships this year!
