But his actual musical skill and the overall tone of his voice is something that needs work. It sounds like he can't quite remember the tune or the words without thinking about it.

I don't think so, I think he makes it sound more real. He makes it sound as if he's singing it for someone and making up as he goes along rather than reading a piece of paper which gives it feeling and life.

I cam upon an epiphany. I might be negged alot for saying this. I never believed that the beatles were very good singers. Their lyrics are beautiful but i just dont like there sound. This movie actually made me like the beatles more then i did. its a beautiful song with beautiful words i just like it more in this style. Im just sharing an oipinion. But Jim sturgess is truely an amazing singer. He deserves all the props and kudos and whatnot. I like him more the the original paul. And hes amazing
