  • Pineda is good, but ...

Pineda is good, but he is no Steve Perry. He's even said that himself...I think it was quoted on the Journey web site.
I bought the new album when it came out, and I'm glad I did. There are actually some really good new songs on there. My two personal favs: 'After All These Years', and 'Turn Down the World Tonight'
Though they aren't the same Journey with SP gone, they also aren't all that bad with Arnel.

  • Review by Ben Wener ...

Review by Ben Wener, OCRegister con't:

"It's crazy frightening what Pineda can do.

What was plainly evident Wednesday night is that with Pineda, Journey has been revitalized. the sheer pleasure of 15,000 people singing along to "Faithfully"

"All the same, Journey now performs with renewed vigor. Like Schon's solos soared as much as Pineda's voice, thanks to Pineda's inclusion.

I think a lot of Journey fans might stop caring whether Steve Perry ever returns."

Review by A. Regnery, Daily Texan:

"Arnel matched up to Perry's powerful tenor. It was clear Journey has retained its glory. This concert was the largest gathering & most, if not all concerts are SOLD out."

"To no one's surprise, the band played & as we all sang our hearts out. I've never seen my dad so into something. A smile on his face & a fist in the air, he & all sang along as if they were on stage w/the band.

Witnessing my dad w/his fave band perform. Priceless"

    Review by Freddie Woods, MelodicRock:

"Arnel hit every note with such power and passion he had the crowd eating out of his hand. If you closed your eyes you would have sworn it was Steve Perry from the Escape tour.

"His voice is THAT strong. ...

"The crowd went insane. It was the loudest roar of the night.... I believe there will be no stadium large enough to hold them. ...This was a night I will NEVER EVER forget."

    More Freddie Woods, MelodicRock :

"The highlight of the show "Faithfully" was sung with such strong emotion by Arnel, the crowd who were singing along sometimes stopped to hear him sing.

"Arms waving in the air, this was the band flexing it's muscle.

"This guy Arnel is the real deal! ... All in all a great show and the band has shown they have made all the right decisions."

  • Time Magazine ...

Time Magazine article by Ling Liu:

"Ever since Steve Perry left, Journey hasn't been the same. Thirty-three years after its birth, Journey is getting a second wind from new lead vocalist Arnel Pineda.

And their new CD release Revelation has already shot up to the 5th highest-selling album in the U.S. since its debut.

How Journey found Pineda is a Cinderella tale of the Internet era. "I've been waiting for this moment to come for 25 years," Arnel says. "It's like shooting to the moon.'"

  • Time Magazine ...

    Time Magazine article continued:

"The band's traditional fanbase is mostly white and American, and some are upset that Pineda is neither.

"Journey is supposed to be an all-American band," one fan wrote in an online forum.

But as more people hear Pineda's truly stunning voice, the number of critics is likely to be drowned out by a roar of support.

"It's a reminder to all of us: don't stop believing."

(Too bad Racism is hopelessly embedded in the hearts & minds of some here..;)
