it was selling for 8,000
yes, I see but, other then anti-vehicle what is such a large gun good for, it will cut infantry armor to shreds in a second, but thats the same thing an M-16 or an A-10 auto shotgun could do.
By ExperimentalArmy [Affiliate User] 1214524120 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveEconomic to YOU and to the US Armed Forces are very different things. VASTLY more economic than a lot of alternatives. And the Barret was founded in 1982, the round might be old but the semi auto M107 is from 1989. Not the future I agree but Discovery Channel ran out of future weapons a while back...
By goclick [Affiliate User] 1214524030 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGuns like the Denel NTW 20s do require two men to deploy but they do NOT need to be bolted down.
In fact the Denel NTW is marketed as being for rapid deployment with just two men as a counter sniper or counter artilery device. The barrel is quickly removed and carried with the ammo by one man and the other uses the integrated handle to sling the rest of the gun over his back. There used to be a good marketing video here on YouTube but I can't find it anymore.
yes, but those types of guns need to be mounted and bolted down, they can not be hand carried and require two people to operate.
By ExperimentalArmy [Affiliate User] 1214523236 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI was referring to the largest cartridge possible for the gun which can go up to 2000 grain (custom built, before the chamber bursts). The standered round is 750 grain for hunting buffalo. Who are you calling a tool by the way? I just burned this guys theories in under a microsecond. If he thinks the .50 cal is futuristic he has a serious tumor growing out of his skull, this rifle is as old as Roosevelt. It is not in the slightest economic. Unlike him ive fired both guns (.557 T-Rex and .50 cal)

Not to mention the cost savings .50 BMGs get by having a bore of 1/2" or less meaning they are not destructive devices and can easily be purchased by the US public meaning economies of scale bring costs WAY down.
If you want the biggest rifle there are things MUCH bigger than the .50 BMG and .577 rounds. A hand full of companies make anti-material rifles that fire 20x82 and 20x102 rounds
Richard Machowicz served with the US Navy SEALs for 10 years in addition to being a Naval Special Warfare Combat Fighting Instructor, as well as a Naval Special Warfare Scout/Sniper. Yes he made a mistake in using the word "round" but it's a show on discovery channel for slack jawed tools like yourself.
The .577 (both Nitro Express and T-rex) are 750 grain rounds not 2000 and produces LESS energy than the .50 BMG not to mention have TERRIBLE ballistics.
the ak-47 don't fire a 308.??? wtf is this guys problem
By Megaspartan12 [Affiliate User] 1214516636 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyes it is but the on of halo has different scope
By diegopaul100 [Affiliate User] 1214516370 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeisn't that the sniper rifle from halo
By KhmerPride206 [Affiliate User] 1214514122 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAn AK-47 shoots the 7.62x39mm round. It can use a 308 BULLET, but it will not shoot a 308 ROUND. This guy is DNS (Dumber 'n' Sh*t).
By armypxranger [Affiliate User] 1214508599 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell maybe not 10 k, but the bullets will cost you as well, it ain't cheap.
By deathdriver23 [Affiliate User] 1214501635 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove10 rounds that fast.....you know he is in pain. Hell, 3 rounds from my .30-06 one after the other is painful enough.
By AlphaBlackheart [Affiliate User] 1214494889 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhy is this guy so excited? This rifle has been around since 1917 (in earlier wooden forms), plus a .577 beats the .50 cal in terms of firepower.
50 cal = 800 grain bullet
.577 rifle = 2000 grain bullet.
do the math. Plus the only way for this rifle to pierce armor is if it was using DU rounds, which are hard to find. Its more economic if you go up against an apache helicopter with a 9mm pistol. This guy knows nothing about guns, he is not a navy seal, he is a loonie for the discovery channel.
if iwas an iraqi and i saw tht comin id crap my pants.. lol
