  • I'm not an expert ...

I'm not an expert in MT, but I've never been taught to pull the opponent into the elbow, maybe in advanced classes? But I'm talking statistically in the ring almost never happens, because pro MT fighters guard their faces really well.

  • I'm not saying that ...

I'm not saying that elbows are easy to counter, in fact I said that they are non-telegraphic, meaning you never see it coming. I was arguing that the overall force is lower compared to a cross in boxing. Most KO's in Muay Thai is with an elbow. But they aren't usually thrown in the clinch.

  • Knees do more ...

Knees do more damage if your opponent move into them. The absolute first clinch drill i remember doing when i first started was moving my opponent one direction and holding them there so they would try to move the other way, and then suddenly shifting my weight to the opposite side and kneeing them while they move into my knee.

  • Elbows are NOT easy ...

Elbows are NOT easy to counter. Punches and kicks are easy to counter, but it's impossible to even move where you want to if you're out classed in the clinch. Let alone defend yourself from elbows and knees. ALso there are lots of locks in clinching and the reason you don't see them on youtube is because the fighters are usually evenly matched and can't perform such locks. I've been in situations where both my arms were trapped and i would have eaten an elbow if it wasn't a spar.

  • It's customary to ...

It's customary to pull your opponent into elbows in muay thai. It's why we always fight for control who gets to be on the inside in the clinch. Whoever has control in the clinch gets to pull the other person into an elbow. However due to the fact that elbows are already strong enough to induce a K.O without the extra momentum from a pull, and the fact that it's faster and more efficent to elbow without pulling, it isn't seen as much.

  • Roundhouse kicks ...

Roundhouse kicks are not performed with the instep, and teeps are never used to damage your opponent. Granted that the knee is mostly cartilage, but Knees cause far more ko's than elbows due to the different customary target areas. It's much easier to land a single knee on your opponent's ribs than it is to land an elbow on your opponent's jaw.

  • Traveling less ...

Traveling less distance generating more force? Where did you get that from? I've taken dynamics and I don't want to flaunt anything, but I'm majoring in mechanical and aerospace engineering with a minor in biomechanics. I'm not pulling stuff out of my ass when I say that an elbow's advantage comes from the "hardness" of the elbow, shorter distance traveled, smaller surface area, and it's not very telegraphic. But the force and velocity is lower.

  • Do I detect a hint ...

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm? Anyways, yes that might generate more momentum, however statistically in a MT bout that rarely happens. Elbows are thrown without pulling the opponent. Not saying it doesn't happen, just not very often. Knees are softer, but the target doesn't move so they absorb more of the blow.

  • I do not have a ...

I do not have a clue why I was considering that factor of pulling your oppenent into the blows. So I dont know where my mind was. The longer the object the more momentum yet thats mostly for swinging motions but the less distance having to travel for a straight forward blow the more force. Unless of couse, you jumping.

Oh yes now that I think of It your right. For some reason I was considering the momentum gained from say, for Elbows: Grabbing the back of the head and pulling your oppenent into the blow. Same for pulling your oppenent into your knee while driving it into there solar plexus.

Bruce Lee is still the best ever. Tony is great and all. But who created a fighting philosophy that has been integrated into anything and everything new about martial arts? Bruce Lee.

  • To be more ...

To be more scientific, the coefficient of restitution is much closer to 1 at the elbow and the contact area is smaller, but the momentum is lower. The knees will only do max damage if the opponent is held still, doing so the will prolong the contact time of the knee with the target, therefore increasing the impulse, thus delivering more force.

  • Its that the Elbows ...

Its that the Elbows are like Knifes and you can smash them into opponents or leave gashes, and the knees get there power because they do not have to travel lomg distances(They get there power from just the explosive raising of the hip joints)

  • The reason I like ...

The reason I like this demo is that the form teaches the fighter to keep their guard up. Most KO's in both MT and boxing is due to the fact one fighter dropped his guard and got hit square in the jaw or chin. Lastly, the move at the end is a TKD move.

  • Not true. Due the ...

Not true. Due the shorter lengths of both elbows and knees compared to the punch and instep respectively, they also have a lower velocity. Even though the angular velocity is the same. When it comes to hitting hard 2 things are crucial; momentum and impulse. lower velocity = less momentum. The knees are also very weak since the joint is mostly cartilage. They are only useful in a clinch.
