Sword-making Part Two

  • Your right, but the ...

Your right, but the "Skill" thing is, that your enemy has a sword too. But when we see it realistic, a sword fight winner just dies later. A reals sword fight does not last longer than 20 seconds, when the combatants are beginners it will last longer. Its the reality. But its stilla difference of trying to kil someone with a sniper rifle, in a safe position, without danger to be counterattacked.

  • You are both right, ...

You are both right, we are using guns now because its more effective. Sword fighting is a more honorable way to win over someone, you just need more skill. yes you indeed need skill to use a gun, but with a gun you have nearly no chance to be attacked by your enemy.
But if they invented guns earlier, im sure samurais would have used them. Especially in wars guns are better. But in a one vs one, a sword is the only honorable way!

  • Guns take alot of ...

Guns take alot of skill to use. Hitting a target 400 yards away is fairly hard. I will admit, using a sword is also fairly hard. But a sword in ANY scenario today would just lose. Its not a realistic battle, so come back from your fantasy world, and wake up.

Guns don't require skill, there's no mistaking that. Yes... "get with the times", conform to the ignorance that surrounds me, that sounds like a great idea. Clearly having values less superficial than yours makes me some kind of cartoon watching hermit... isn't perception wonderful!? Guns exist to give the weak power, we ensure our fate these days because, best case scenario, the weak win or... the weak win... I'm done with this "discussion"... shake your head, cause I'm shaking mine!

  • I think someone has ...

I think someone has watched a little bit too much Anime (traceur9). And if you say guns need no skill to use, you are very very sadly mistaken. If someone was trying to kill me, i'd choose to use a gun thank-you-very-much. If i was fighting for my country, i wouldnt use a weapon that i could get cut down with and watch my country lose. I'd use the good weapon! Theres no honour in killing whether it be with a gun or a sword. So get out, and get with the times

Dedication, time, and skill to make, not to use. Be proud of your craft, sure... nvmd, the concept is clearly beyond some people.

  • I agree with your ...

I agree with your morals on anyone having the power to kill, without having put in any work to earn that power being wrong (::cough::George Bush ::cough::), but the simple fact is that weapons are made for killing thing, not for gaining honour. Also, is there no pride and honour in gunsmithing? sure, most guns are just mass produced tools (like WWII katanas btw.), but some custom guns are as much a work of dedication, time and skill as any nihontō or mò

  • I guess what I ...

I guess what I should have said is more honorable weapons, because the only honorable thing to do is fight as you are. Bows, and any ranged weapon is cowardice, just because technology makes killing easier, doesn't mean you aren't a coward for using it. The simple idea that it requires no skill or effort makes it cowardly, if that makes it more clear, if not... I am sad for you... Todays weapons exist because people are too weak or lazy to do what they should, that's my perspective.

  • traceur9: exactly ...

    traceur9:
exactly how do you justify using a gun as cowardice? swords have, as a weapon, died because more effective weapons (guns etc.) have been invented. Its like someone in 700ad Japan fighting with a flint axe calling a Katana wielding Samurai a coward... He's not, he is just moving with the times

Ps. I have no great love for guns, and I am a fan of swords myself, I just see your comment as rather unjust an illogical.

Pps. I also like parkour (I noticed the name)

  • Yeah, they turned ...

Yeah, they turned out pretty decent, and clearly the japanese aren't the only sword makers. The real problem are all the cowards using pistols and rifles instead of honorable weapons like swords. Because of those cowards the need for professional smiths is fading.
