A bit of history lesson on PAFs, some myth debunking and a little bit about myself and the pickups.
PAF pickups or "patent applied for" represent the history of rock n' roll tone. Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, Michael Bloomfield, the list is endless, the tones are historic. I've put five years of research into how these pickups were made and what they were made of, this two part video shows some of the history and demonstrates two different pickup sets for "that" tone players want. Sit back and enjoy.....

  • My Platinum PAFs ...

My Platinum PAFs sound better than ever. I must get some audio clips to you. Had them for about 7 months now.
Folks, if you know the PAF sound, these pickups are it. Great bite and real tone, unlike many of the HBs Gibson has churned out post-PAF. The bridge pickup has that edge. The output is just right and you can really vary the tone by playing with the height. You can get up under the strings without losing your tone. I personally prefer backing off a bit.
    Great product

  • Hi, i'm probably ...

Hi, i'm probably gonna be a customer soon. So After a lot of reading on your website I think I can say the platinum series are the most exact paf copies of the humbuckers you make. Correct me if i'm wrong! My question is. How much are the relic platinum and how much are the shipping costs to belgium? Does the relic option effect the tone in a good/bad/any way?

    Thanks a lot

Please watch the Platinum Video Part One for info on what a PAF, basically they were the first humbucking pickups. P-90's preceded them and were noisy single coils with a different fat tone, I will have a P90 demo soon. P90s were used by the Who, Freddie King, Santana, etc. PAFs by Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Joe Walsh etc.

  • low quality bobbins ...

low quality bobbins don't have a solid core, they have air spaces between poles or slugs, this creates an acoustic resonance that doesn't sound so good. The good bobbins, like the vintage stuff has a solid core that the wire is wrapped around.

Legally DiMarzio has a "patent" on double creme humbuckers if you can believe that! I can do them but I can only get low quality bobbins in double creme, the high quality bobbins only come in zebra.

  • I HAVE done the ...

I HAVE done the same research into P90s. PAFs and P90s are interrelated as they use common steel parts and magnets. The P90s I make now are correct for about 1952 era, there are about 4-5 historical versions of P90s, I can make 3 of them, but only directly offer the stock Zephyr set and its modern version the P90X set. I am a P90 fanatic and have studied them a long time. If you need a certain kind of set email me from my website and I'd be glad to build a custom set for you......Dave

Great work, nice playing too! I wish someone would do as much research into P90's - people get extremely anal about PAF's, which is fine, but P90's don't seem to get the same kind of love.

  • I ordered these ...

I ordered these pickups after a considerable amount of research. I needed a set of HBs for my Ibanez AS-50. I trust Dave's aesthetic. Anyone whose hero is Harry Dearmond is OK in my book. So after emailing, I decided to go with the Platinum set. I was after a neck pickup with real clarity and definition. I had high expectations and I was NOT disappointed in the least bit by the craftsmanship and, mostly, the sound of these pickups. Money well spent. See pt. 2 for more...

  • Thanks for the ...

Thanks for the comments guys. I've noticed that some people aren't watching Part Two. Its important to watch as this is where both sets of pickups are demonstrated. There are two sets, not one, and they are very different from eachother. One is very open and chimey, the other darker and more sustain, modeled on Peter Green's pickups. At the end of the video there is some playing through a more high gain amp setup. Email me if you have any questions Enjoy! ....Dave

I've known Dave for 25 years and he's the real deal. He's a skilled musician, knows guitars and is a technical savant and dedicated craftsman. I hate him. I don't know why anybody would use something else.
