  • were simply ...

were simply defending the views of a man who is being misrepresented by theists trying to claim them as their own. einstein himself accused people like dinesh of this dishonesty. his views on religion and god werent questionable, we know full well from his interviews and letters that were recently made public that he was in no way a believer in the human concept of god. he identified himself as believing in spinozas god, and spinoza in his time was considered by people to be an atheist. end.

  • Ive actually ...

Ive actually watched the whole thing.

I just think you atheists are so desperate to speak for Einstein's religious beliefs as if what he believes is the know-all end all of the debate.

His views are questionable at best.

And if you wanna talk about his words, he never said he was an atheist in the modern sense nor was he a theist.

  • youd better realize ...

youd better realize that his "god" was a descriptive word for the laws of the universe.
NOT a god who created the universe or life, NOT an intelligent being who exists outside the universe and NOT a god who concerns himself with our morality or personal affairs. get it?
once you manage to get that through your head you can get on with watching the debate.

  • "I do not share the ...

"I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth."
    -Einstein

See? I can cut and paste from Wikipedia too

  • "god" was just a ...

"god" was just a name he used to describe the laws and mystery of the universe. gos was nature to einstein.
so scaling this along with your claim that "Einstein did believe that an intelligent being was responsible for the universe" i think we can establish you honestly dont know your history.
give it a rest you believers.

  • "It was, of course, ...

"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it" einstein.
maybe you and dinesh ought to take this one to heart.

  • dinesh lists " ...

dinesh lists "theists" and mentions einstein, either its a blatant lie or dinesh is an idiot. and no, einstein didnt believe god was responsible for the universe, it was the exact opposite. "It seems to me that the idea of a personal God is an anthropological concept which I cannot take seriously. I also cannot imagine some will or goal outside the human sphere"

  • WTF are you talking ...

WTF are you talking about? In his debate with Hitchens, he said that Deism is almost identical to Theism with the exception of God intervening in human events.

And Einstein did believe that an intelligent being was responsible for the universe. If you look at his jounals and papers, he was certainly no atheist.

And I'm gussing when you say 'religious' you mean the modern evangelicals you hate so much

  • oh dont get it ...

oh dont get it twisted. you know as well as i what his views on religion were.
dinesh calles einsten a "theist" in his debate with hitchens. dinesh is a liar, period.
there was nothing religious about einstein, he didnt believe in a personal god, he saw the abrahamic religions as bunk etc.
technically you could take his use of the word god as deism, but to the religious out there, he was a stone cold unbeliever.
    asshole.

The setup of this debate is so awkward! I've never seen one like this before. Very strange. And that student seems so nervous.

  • The real issue with ...

The real issue with these debates is how we define morality, or our since of right and wrong....whether we admit it or not both athiestistic and theistic views have their influence. I think thats why people are so at odds with eacher other in these debates.

  • Actually I'm really ...

Actually I'm really tired of seeing bragging rights for both sides. And I can't stand fence sitting agnostics.

Why can't everyone try to concentrate on something a little more...interesting.

Science and materialism is boring and depressing...

    and Religion is far-fetched.

Perhaps we can do something else? play the spoons?

  • Yes, I can see ...

Yes, I can see where you're coming from. I can't stand militant atheists, who don't really have a grasp of Science, attempting to put devine metaphysics into a rationale box.

I hate millitant religious types also, both groups piss me off!

  • Yeah jldyett, but ...

Yeah jldyett, but my point is directed to atheist supporters who try to make these debates to be a battle of EVIDENCE...ie no prove for god, just like there is no proof for a unicorn.....

In other words they are trying to fit god into a box (scientific data) to where he can be proved or disproved. These debates may include science but doesn't depend 100 percent on scientic conclusions.
So DInesh is made to look like an idiot with useless arguments, an intellectual fraud as you will.

Surely that's the whole point of philosophy, there are no mistakes, just different answers to the same question.

I don't particularly like god, atheists or agnostics.

    But D'Souza is compelling.
