Cutegurl, I was in Eritrea 2 months ago. The President DID NOT walk freely among Eritreans, at least in Asmara where I saw him. (I'll post a video of me shaking his hand as proof.) When I saw the president, he had a SECURITY DETAIL with armed body guards at the restaurant inside the Intercontinental Hotel. Though it wasn't a large detail, only 4-5 men. You should not give the misimpression that he walk freely in public amongst Eritrean people. He isn't a dumb man.

Though I DO THINK Eris should help only those who have COMPLETED Sawa duty. I am a strong supporter of Sawa, though I think there should be a term limit of 2 years. I wish they had mandatory national service in America just for the discipline such a program would offer.

Also, I think that you Eris living board COULD DO MORE to support other Eris back home. Meaning others besides YOUR OWN family members. I met some may villagers who didn't have families living abroad. They are suffering the greatest. If I can send money to poor families (WHICH IS VERY HARD TO DO) back in Eritrea being an American, what about you Eritreans living better lives, abroad? You all should be MARRYING Eris back home to help the ones who'd like to leave ERI for a better life.

LOL... what evil person gave me a 'thumbs down" vote? It must have been someone a Shabait supporter or an Meles supporter. Look I have no interest in politics. I wish there was unity among Ethios and Eri. Don't hate my views simply because I spoke of my personal observations. I think both Eris and Ethios are beautiful people (meaning the non-racist ones I've met.)

I have great love for Eritrea and those Eritreans who are non-racist. But I must say this without any consideration to current political postering I see between Ethios and Eris. I was in Eritrea 2 months ago visiting friends and some new friends I've met through the net. There is NO WAY anyone can convince me that Eriteans, as a whole, are 'happy' about their economy or political climate. Even as a foreigner, I could see through the fake smiles and pretense of "everything being okay."

No mr.peace 754, still somebody misinformed you. Our economy is grown up by 10% annually. This data is not mine rather derived from IMF. Our export income reaches to $1.5 billion and our daily military expense is not $1million ( it was during the war time). Regarding the poor Ethiopian, yes there are still millions of poor in Ethiopia, in India..... in so many developing country since we r not developed. But the future is promising and , with no doubt, we will change it soon.

Peace 754,No no no we are not getting poor cause we have rich resource . You can talk about Eritrea. the no peace no war situation will have nothing to do with Ethiopians economy since the boarder part of Ethiopia with Eritrea including its trade relation has no economic importance to Ethiopia. I don't know the consequence to Eritrea after Ethiopia abandon to use the ports.

We should put things in perspective..eritrea is at war with agame regime of addis ababa. Meles refused to abide by the algers aggrement ..the UN mission failed ...the economic war is still going on the Eritrean n ehiopian pple... We are at no peace-no war situation.... those two poor countries are getting poor everyday due the cost war...first thing is first...peace...ethiopia should abide by border ruling...eritreas know how to play with fire but prefer to live in peace..

Isaias is a straight forward man who refuses in principle to use the FORKED TONGUE of diplomacy. He will call a spade a spade. Isaias had no time for bullshit during the liberation struggle and they dont have time for BS now. I know its hard for Ethiopians to understand that but that is what you call a REAL LEADER!
Eritrea's stance to shun aid and to build a capacity to fend for its own, is a headache to all that want to cripple Africans.
