  • A lot of people use ...

A lot of people use Avid professionally - especially in the Film and TV world. It has long been the standard NLE. Final Cut has being making up ground in recent years however and both are very comparable in what they can accomplish.

  • Does anyone ...

Does anyone actually use Avid anymore, professionally?

Our uni insists on training the first years in Avid; we won't use FCP 'til our second year. It looks a hell of a lot easier.

I can't wait. If I get one more 'AVID DENIED', I'll... do something irrational.

  • in fcp if you right ...

in fcp if you right click then copy the clip with the parameters you want to copy then right click on the clip you want to add it to and select paste attributes, You can select just the motion or anything else you had applied to the other clip (filters etc) and it'll copy the exact move to that item

  • hey quick question. ...

hey quick question. Is there a way to copy the set parameters from one motion object on to another? Basically I want to objects to move in exact syncronization with each other.

The look motion I am going for is a jpg of a TV moving towards the viewer with a video playing inside the box but I wanted to know if there was an easy way to get the video and the jpg of the tv moving together.

No, it was cut with Avid... says so in the credits near the end (right before the fan club credits).

Cold Mountain was done with FCP.

  • Every studio I use ...

Every studio I use to know in 99-2001 that used Avid all use FCP now.The comments that were made about that "they don't cut feature films on Final Cut Pro"...
I'll be sure to tell my friends who work at Sony Studios that cut everyday on Final Cut Pro that it's not final cut pro they're cutting on...that it must be Avid and it's all in their head.

Thanks for this tutorial. I was missing one of the pieces to this and got it now!

  • I have cut on Final ...

I have cut on Final Cut for your years. Also have used Avid too. FCP is a solid program all the way. Avid is over priced and FCP can do anything that Avid can do for a fraction of the price. Besides Apple is much more stable system then PCs.

  • I don't know where ...

I don't know where you get your facts from but people can and do cut features on FCP - I've seen it done! I don't know what makes you think it's never been done. Angus Fall cut Fincher's Zodiac on FCP & those were shot on ViperStreams.

Not only can FCP handle an HD online - but it can handle 4K REDCODE from a Red camera. Gimme a break!

Listen - I highly respect Avid and I know people from within - but you have to get your facts straight.

  • Dude they don't cut ...

Dude they don't cut feature films with FCP. They cut them on the Avid adrendaline if shot in native HD. They use there laptop and off line each scene after they shoot it with FCP because it is free. Avid is just such a bulletproof system that why Hollywood is a Avid town. You must know Avid if you want to work on major projects. Macs do look cool though!

  • That's fine that ...

That's fine that you have the opinion that you love Avid but to suggest that it is more "professional" than Final Cut Pro is naive and short sighted. It's clear you had a bad experience - but a number of things could have been wrong with your setup including hardware issues or other software conflicts. Tons of professional television shows and movies are cut with FCP - and it's respected in the industry. Just ask David Fincher or the Coen Brothers - not exactly amateurs.

  • If you are a pro ...

If you are a pro video why are you teaching these kids FCP. That program is such a piece of junk. I bought a FCP station and we could not get anybody to use it. It crashed all the time. I can do everything in my Avid xpress pro HD alot faster and more reliable than the best FCP system. That is why they cut all the big films on Avid.

I've seen better outcome on this tutorial; presentation was clear and to the point; however, it's better to use a custom gradient white top to black bottom with composite mode of Multiply. use a Basic 3D filter for the second image modify Y & Z 180-degrees. video footage V3, Custom Gradient V2, Mirror/copy of video footage from V3 on V1, render timeline and your done.
