Test details:
The Lincoln Town Car, Ford Crown Victoria, and Mercury Grand Marquis were re-engineered for the 2003 model year.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has evaluated the crashworthiness of a 2003 Town Car in two 40 mph frontal offset crash tests into deformable barriers. In the first test, a high acceleration occurred when the dummy's head rebounded against the B-pillar, indicating a possibility of head injury. This led Lincoln to modify the frontal airbag deployment characteristics on models produced after May 2003 (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door).
The Institute tested a second Town Car with the modified airbags, and all head injury measures were low. Ratings of the Town Car listed here are from the second test.
Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled in the second test. During rebound, the top of the head hit the roof rail and adjacent window frame between the A- and B-pillars. As in the first test, the driver's seat tipped toward the door.
Injury measures — In the second test, measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the left femur, knee, and tibia indicate that injuries to the leg and knee would be possible. Head acceleration from the roof rail/window frame hit was low.
Depends on which year.

By billypimpcat [Affiliate User] 1207503952 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveTrue. This car only gets 9 mpg on a good day. Kinda like an old Bentley.
By lolinternets1 [Affiliate User] 1207462201 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveNo, but Europeans can't afford the fuel for such a behemoth, and anyway, their streets are too clogged. This car is just very American, both for good and bad.
By Manimal347 [Affiliate User] 1207430483 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhy that wasn't bad at all. The door frame held it's shape pretty well.

By nickyl1988 [Affiliate User] 1202665406 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe safest car on the earth...well the only car to receive 5 star crash safety rating in all 5 ratings. The front of the car was decimated but it looks like the guy could just get out of the car and have a picnic after the crash. The guy barely got touched.

By boogiewoman303 [Affiliate User] 1198789686 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSome of u here may think this isn't great, but you've got to consider that the strongest point of this car is it's chassis, unlike compact cars with Unit-body which rely on it's entire cage( Frame). This is good. Go and crash this car with a Honda Accord, and u'll see how the champ is, The 3300lb compact or the 4300lb bigfoot.
