Here's a look at my Xbox 360 setup. Like many of you, I'm tired of the RROD!!! Here's what I've done in an effort to keep my 360 alive. A list of mods done so far are...
-XClamp mod
-Arctic Silver applied to CPU/GPU
-penny trick on bottom of all RAM chips
-added heatsinks to top of all RAM chips and NAND chip
-added fan switch (9v/10.5v/12v)
-12v fan mod (running on the switch)
-added XCM fan on third heatsink
-shroud split in two and sealed to heatsinks
-cardboard placed over heatsinks to better direct air THROUGH heatsinks
-cut out metal mesh blocking exhast fans
-also cut plastic mesh blocking exhaust fans (did it after making the vid)

The XCM fan is 60mm. If you buy a different brand fan to do this, make sure it's slim or it won't fit.

  • That is ...

That is categorically not true as the DVD drive is not being shorted for power. It's getting a 12v feed and the amps it needs to operate. There is zero loss to DVDROM power. Ask an electrician - that's just not the way it works.

  • I now got all 7 ( ...

I now got all 7 (stock fans included) fans running at 12v and have done the cardboard cover trick to the gpu ..

I can tell one thing with these fans running at 12v each on my 360 and with the exhaust vents cut out the air that comes out from the back feels lukewarm or cooler..

I posted a quick vid of my 360 theres a link on my other reply here if you haven't seen it yet.

  • Stock fans run ...

Stock fans run variable voltage - I've read they start out at 5v and I've also read they're 7v. As the console gets hotter, voltage increases up to 12v.

The idle voltage does a poor job at cooling. The 12v mod helps a lot at cooling your console. But it's LOUD...so consider running at 10v or so using a switch or resistor.

  • Try the 12v mod and ...

Try the 12v mod and covering the GPU heatsink first. Since I did this, I found that the DVDROM doesn't get hot anymore. You may also find that the extra fan isn't necessary.

  • Sorry to hear about ...

Sorry to hear about your trouble. What I'd do first is apply pressure to chips and try booting. One time my 360 died and it came back to life while pushing on the NAND chip, which indicated that there was a bad connection to the NAND.

Best overall fix seems to be the heat gun method. Best overheat deterrent is modding the back fans to run at 12v. Good luck.

  • Thats cool that we ...

Thats cool that we can write games to the HDD its just quieter and of course a little cooler when not using the dvd drive but the main reason is for shorter loading time and good for multi-disk games, what really makes the dvd drive hot is the GPU that sits right underneath it and that's where the problem starts from.

I will install a fan behind the dvd drive maybe later on , I just think its a great idea if you install yours maybe with another XCM fan, it will fit just perfect.
