PS3 with Linux Apps

those games are cooler than any newer games. new games are bulljiiiiiiiive N****r !

There's a lot of services you can disable to make your distro(newer distros) run better. Like FC8.

There's not much use for linux on your PS3 unless you have firmware 1.5 or less. Right now the only use I have found is I have a friend who does have a computer but has a PS3. I put linux on his PS3 so he could use torrents and download movies to his 2gb flash card, and transfer them to the PS3 OS.

I'm just testing it. lol, I wouldn't use it for that, but what other things should I do with Linux on the PS3? It's just interesting, just like I put Win 98 on QEMU. It's all for fun.

why wouldnt you just run the linux port of Doom instead?

wow. thats the biggest waste of time i think ive seen for quite a while. using a ps3 to play games games like that.. im all for having linux on the ps3 i think its fantastic.. but really, i cannot fathom why you would want to play mario kart?... or play tombraider at 3 fps ... 5 stars 4 u because im that kind of mood

How did you get Doom to run that fast in DOSBox. Mine has a horrible FPS and is impossible to play. Do you have to optimize Linux on the PS3 to run emu's like that?

All that is true, Kehrosuki. But it would run so slow it would be unplayable. If the PS2 could run off of software alone, than there would have been no need for the PS2 chip in the PS3 in the first place.

In other words, the PS2 backwards compatibility needed the hardware.

Stop asking about psx emulators! They dont work! Linux only runs over cpu because the gpu is locked by sony

Yea, that's what I was thinking. Cuz even though the PS3 (40gb) can't play PS2, you could bypass it by using a PS2 emulator on the Linux that is installed on your PS3.

So technically, it's just a computer running an emulator and the PS3 wouldn't know the difference. And since it's bluetooth, you can probably configure the controllers to the same controls.

Make it fullscreen, and bam, PS2/N64 on your PS3.

reason being they don't want you using the ps3 as a serious emulation engine for homebrew. The way I see it is they have crippled it. Such a shame! One of the reasons I got rid of my PS3 a year ago.

Linux users did manage to access the RAM at one point, but sony doesn't want to allow users to be able to access the GPU, so they made a firmware update making it impossible to use the GPU. Kinda sux, but if they don't want you using it, I'm sure they got a good reason.

no, you can't, but you can do one better and install windows on top of linux. Then you get those programs. Better yet, people are constantly working on programs that work the same way as the ones you mentioned. So if you need to access files like wmv, there are ways around it. Generally takes alot of reading up tho. Good Luck!

yes right. You can only play some very old 3d games like doom. You can see this at 6:00 when im playing tomb raider its extreme slow.

So nothing like a game like call of duty

yeah games that working on a powerpc.
But you cant run 3d games because linux only uses the cpu

no it doesn´t. You need to install some programms.
