MUCH THX! I've been looking for something similar to this. I added a little bit more sugar and fish sauce. The star anise in the five-spice was a bit strong for me, so next time I will have to put a bit less. I put in short beef ribs instead of pork meat. I also added bamboo and eggs 10 mins before cooked because I don't like the egg white to be a bit chewy or hard.

I love this dish! I remembered my mom used to make it every week for me and my siblings when we were kids. But everytime I ate it I got sick and we didn't know why. To find out later that I'm allergic to uncured pork meat! Hehehe...How ironic! Alot of Lao and Thai food use pork.
