Pikes Peak Per Eklund 850 Bhp SAAB Rallycross (in-car)

The cars are all in groups. every group has different regulation. The car seen in this video is not the car he set the record with, that car looked like standard saab, only it was not... There is a video on here called pikes peak 2000 or something where you can see the actual race with the ecopower SAAB 93

It beats me how Eklund's time of 11:21.58 set in 2000 is any sort of record when Vatanen set 10:47.22 in 1988 ???

Its a hillclimb race no more no less. Cars are all made specially for this and never race anywhere els... As the regulation in any other race would prevent this from entering.
By the way did you all know Per Eklund was born in 1946 and set his record in the pikes peak race in 2000... My god he was old

OK I've just watched it.

Aside from the fact I don't speak Swedish, you're right that the car is built specifically for Pikes Peak but considering the chassis is built on their standard jig with steel roof and rear quarters about the only difference I could see between this car and the gutted rallycross chassis in that workshop (which was probably the source of all the mechanicals) was they replaced steel inner guards with carbon fibre.

'Special' is what Rod Millen builds for pikes peak.

The engine, 4wd transmission, body panels, wheels, suspension, chassis are all exactly the same as Eklunds regular open class rally cross car, what exactly is 'special' about it other than bigger aero?

And you'd better actualy provide something in the way of proof to back up any claims!

Listen, that's about as accurate as saying that any modified Group B car that ran on Pikes Peak was purpose built!

This Saab is simply an Per Eklund ex European Rallycross Championship car with extra aero.
