My first sailboat, and it changed my life - it might change yours (RebelCat.com). Ever wish you could find an easy way to go sailing? This little catamaran might be the answer. You can make one in a few days for very little money, even free if you can scrounge the materials. Here's the story of my first 'cat', made in the bush in Brazil. More info at my Web site RebelCat.com. Correction on the size of the sail: 3 by 2 meters, not 4 by 3. Sail on!
What material would you use for a durable sail, and were would you buy it

The easiest way is to sew a tube in the leading edge of the mainsail and slip it over the mast. The jib clips to a cable from the mast to the bow. I can't see your boat, but mine took about 15 minutes to assemble. DON'T screw into the pipes, there will be twisting and other movement and they won't hold. Use tie downs and curved feet on the frame. The frame and pontoons must flex, not be rigid (the mistake I made with RC 2, bolting the pipes on).

By Twofunnyjews [Affiliate User] 1220003923 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm glad you asked. I don't like to talk about problems, but I injured my foot and it's in the air for nearly a month - sorry about the delay. I want all of you to get the very best boat plans I can make, so I'm going on one more sail trip at Lake Powell Sept. 12-14, and maybe a cruise from 14-20, to make sure that this cat performs perfectly after the changes I'm making. I know you all want the best, so I'm aiming for that. If my foot will cooperate (almost healed), we're there.

By marjamada [Affiliate User] 1220002541 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm glad you liked it. I've seen cats made from two kayaks joined parallel. Good luck with your project.
By marjamada [Affiliate User] 1220002456 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHeeling is not related to rudder length or width. All sailboats heel; the stronger the wind and the more sail area exposed, the greater the pressure to tip the boat, even if it has no rudder or ten rudders. The rudder must have a surface area great enough to turn the rear of the boat while moving through water, and its efficiency increases with speed. Cats generally have small rudders and daggerboards, because they move fast. I wanted better steering at slow speeds, hence the wider rudder.

By marjamada [Affiliate User] 1220001534 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOh yeah, do you have a square sail and fold it into a triangle, or sut a triangle?
By Twofunnyjews [Affiliate User] 1220000932 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removenice! i've build you're boat without the sail, how do I attach the main sail to the mast, I'm gonna improvise with the jib unless you have a really good idea. btw if it knokes down, how long dose it take to rebuild. and i have an idea instead of tieing the deck on, why dont you use screws with rubber washers so its water proof, do you think this wil work?
By Twofunnyjews [Affiliate User] 1220000788 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhy don't you put this on instructables? if you never herd of it its a diy website and a lot of people there give positive feed back and new ideas and variations of the project. Plus you can emmbed this video on the page!
P.S. I sent you a friend invite can you say yes =)
how long is your rudder
because if you are healing then you would either need a really long one or two
RebelCat 1 cost about $100, including the tools and varnish. PIP (thinwall) PVC pipe is easy to cut with a fine-tooth hand saw - a table saw is overkill. Regarding your other questions (not appearing here): The mast on RC 1 was about 4.5m and the jib 4.5 m x 1m. RC 5 mast is 18'.

By the way how much (approximetly) did it cost to build and can you use a table saw to cut pvc
