During EVS 23, the Electric Vehicle Symposium, Matt Kelly of PodTech spoke with Pitt Moos, Product Manager for the Smart EV, a prototype and research electric vehicle being developed by http://www.daimler.com/ Daimler. Currently 100 of them are being built and delivered to consumers in London, England as part of a four year project. The smart for two arrives on North American shores in early 2008, and rumour has it, the EV version will be here not too long after.

  • True Odziz , but ...

    True Odziz
, but you "have" it on temporary lease to corporate custumers that will use them as a curiosity to attract street publicity and that won't won't bother to try to keep them afterwards.
You won't have EV Smarts in the british market for at least 8 years oficially (more like 50).
The original Smart was launched in Portugal in 2000 and came out in Japan and Britain in 2001 (because of left seat driving)...

You might not see it in Portugal, but we already have it in the UK, where the original Smart is very popular.

  • Hey Everyone! You ...

Hey Everyone! You or I will never drive a Smart EV (maybe our grandchildren) because it is a green PR guilt washing project by Daimler Chrysler
that will never be on sale even though it works perfectly and the public loves it because they have a lot of money to lose in a car that
lasts a long time, pays for itself eventually and practicaly doesn't need maintenance. Have a nice future everyone!

And dam well they should lease it, do you have any idea what would happen if people bought this and kept it? They would like it, and they would show there friends, and where would big oil be then? There would be no more commuters idling at stop lights burning up fuel at $132/L and no more $200 oil changes...haha

  • He makes a pretty ...

He makes a pretty bold statement here. I guess battery-electric vehicles will never achieve mass adoption since they will always be limited to urban areas. Since your company has placed nearly all its funding on fuel cell applications your credibility can be somewhat reduced. This car is worthless. This car is an embarrassment to the entire electric vehicle community.
