    In response to your question, for sure the more advanced learners need to learn prepositions by using them in day to day conversation.
    You will want to use 'on your behalf' e.g.
    I sent the letter on your behalf or
    I sent the letter for you.
    Please also be aware that prepositions can vary from American to British English eg.:
    on the weekend vs at the weekend

    When we're talking about prepositions of direction it's easier to remember because there's like a rule...

    But what about we're not talking about directions, is it one of that things you have to know by heart and you learn little by little?

    e.g. "On your behalf", and not "In your behalf."
