We Europeans must build space elevator first in EU (European Union) before USA. It's innovative and cheaper transportation to space. When we build it, we will dominate the space and collonise the moon and Mars.
Ribbon is build from supermaterial called nanotubes - atomically precise tubes, which weigh less and are 50 times stronger than steel

based on european research of nanotechnology and testing in Germany. Building of space elevator in Europe, space elevator contest in California with european teams

It's a revenue loss, even if they aren't pushing the game any more.

Like I said earlier, just because something can be found for download at no cost (and many of us have downloaded stuff that hasn't been released for free download) doesn't mean you would win if the copyright owners decided to sue - and I guarantee they have much bigger pockets than most to fund their lawyers, especially M$.

After having looked through the nahoo site I'm still left with the same opinion. Nahoo would appear to just be someone's personal website, and all the game downloads he offers are in the exact same category as any torrent game downloads - namely, I seriously doubt he has permission to offer those games for free downloads. Ask youself a question: do you think that Micro$oft would give anyone permission to offer their games (eg., Age Of Empires) for free download? What's in it for M$?

Companies working on this project are Carbon Designs, MIT, UC Berkeley, NASA, Los Alamos National Laboratory, NASA institute for advanced concepts, European space society....
You can also check technological solution how to speed up the launch of the space elevator by well known genius and inventor Win Wenger on his site - winwenger . com/elevator . htm

  • No No I know the ...

No No I know the pluses. What I wona know is the NAME of the companies who are currently researching and developing the technology.

The last time I checked at the space elevator topic we (the humanity, without the army)were lacking the basic material that could hold such pressures.

And by keeping it real I mean GIEF more links names and a bit more than cheap discovery channel documentary.

  • You can download ...

You can download Dune 2000 from Nahoo by typing Nahoo Dune 2000 in Google. I haven't used any bittorrent so the game seems to be really for free. But thanks for your caring. I used Beautiful day song from U2 on My House video, Youtube found that it is copyright violation and now is this video just running with adds. That is nice solution from Youtube.

  • (cont...) While it ...

    (cont...)
While it is possible to find the game (or lots of other stuff - like Windows Vista, many TV shows, etc) on the net and download it at no cost, the legality of it is a completely different matter. (I'm pretty sure that Microsoft and TV companies are not amused by people downloading their software, shows, etc. ;) )
Anyway, I'm not a lawyer and won't be chasing anyone over this sort of stuff ... it would kind of be like the pot calling the kettle black really! (as the saying goes)

  • I am a little ...

I am a little skeptical that Dune 2000 is now free to download - I can't see a company like EA giving up it's right to profit from it so soon (yes, even 10 years) after it's release. If they decided to take someone to court over it, I expect that person would lose.
Anyway, the copyright comment was mainly meant as a caution rather than a complaint - and I think that the SE community in general are looking for extra public awareness, rather then spending much time pursuing copyright cases.

  • I'm glad that ...

I'm glad that somebody from Australia watched my video even if it doesn't bring anything to the topic (I forgot to put there EU flag). Dune 2000 is now a free game to download and I loved to play it and the music suits to this video. If there will be more people complaining about the copyright, I will make this video private just for myself

  • Real? Most ...

Real? Most definitely - there is current research on the subject, at least one company with the goal of building one, and a competition to demonstrate some of the needed tech ... with a NASA provided US$4 million prize pool.

As for who would build it? Anyone with the resources who wants to cut the costs of launching stuff into space by a factor of 10 or more! There's a big potential market when launch costs fall by that much!

  • While I am ...

While I am certainly a fan of the current research going into building the Space Elevator, this video adds nothing to the topic (and not once does it even mention the EU as the topic would suggest) and is only a compilation of other videos available on the internet. I'm guessing you've broken copyright several times by making and posting it - and by ripping the music straight from the Dune 2000 game.

Thank you for your comment, I would love to see the EU to build the space elevator too. Therefore I created this video.

Dude, have you just set up 2 accounts, and your xgalba01 commenting on xgalba00's video?! Man, that is quite sad.

Apart from that I would love to see the EU get the first handhold on a new exploratory ladder, it would be great.

  • I'm sure that we ...

I'm sure that we will see it in operation in this century (my guess is 2040). Nanotechnology is new field. Scientists know how to let grow carbon nanotubes. It grows very slowly and it is now very expensive, because it is created just in labs.
Space elevator will be possible to build when 20000 km long ribbon will be produced from nanotubes. It will be very thin.
Second condition is improvement of the laser energy transmission effeciency. Now it is just 5%.
