This is the funniest scene in the whole movie, in my opinion. I literally almost died laughing when I first saw it. I laughed so hard for over 10 minutes. The idea that they roped in the hand cart and left the 2 workers floating in quicksand without even giving it a second thought.

    For all of those who think that Richard Pryor wrote the majority of this movie, you are wrong. Mel Brooks and company were the primary writers, but Pryor was a part of the staff at the time. The best part of the story is that none of the really raw racial humor is Pryor's. His major contribution was all the Mongo bits later on in the film.
