Am not a civil engineer and haven't studied the plans, but I'd feel a bit uneasy being near the top of a building which was that tall.

Volunteers to do first base jump from the top?

  • Hi DerAdventurer ...

    Hi DerAdventurer
It's nice living somewhere that war isn't constantly on the agenda & manages to assist other countries in positive ways.
Dubai gets a lot of flak but the people are also very generous when it comes to raising money for those not as well off as them.
I don't have a problem with America as such, but it's foreign policy is certainly doing it's people & int'l reputation no favours - it seems that outside (and inside) opinion of the US (in this respect) is reaching all time lows.

  • This is a very ...

This is a very remarkable policy. It's a shame that a few other country make of the whole a bad image, but I know very well who's bad and who's good. UAE features as one of the MANY good-will countries.

I like America, you know. However I might agree with you completely that USA foreign policy is America's worst enemy. Indeed.

    Friendly greetings.

  • 4,000 feet = 1,219 ...

    4,000 feet = 1,219 metres...
The tallest oil rig I could find is the Petronius Platform... "is 609.9 m (2,001 feet) high, arguab1y the tallest fee-standing structure in the world, although this claim is controversia1 since only 75 meters of the platform are above water. The multi-deck topsides are 64 meters by 43 meters by 18.3 meters high."

The Burj Dubai is expected to be over 800 m high when complete.

Arabs do live in Dubai - 19% of Dubai's population is local.
Arabs do work in Dubai too, I know because I live there and I see them at work.
The other areas you mentioned are emirates not states.
    It is Sharjah not Charger.
And Ras al-Khaimah not Ras Al Khaymeh.
Dubai only gets 6% of it's revenue from oil, so hardly "pissing oil".
The construction workers and service workers come here because there is better paid work here for them that they cannot get at home.

  • Hello DerAdventurer ...

Hello DerAdventurer - I didn't mean to imply that you were American, I check where people are from before posting. The comment re USA was just pointing out that the USA's foreign policies have made them a target and the UAE's foreign policy doesn't - they are more focused on peace in the ME and developing their country than destroying others'.

  • So you're saying ...

So you're saying the concept is not related to the design, interesting theory, I beg to differ. Something is not "totally American" if it is based on an idea and designs from another culture.
The inside is designed by Armani, will that make the inside Italian?
Dubai doesn't rely on oil, it is only 6% of Dubai's income so not sure what oil has to do with it.
