Correct. The books go into detail about how Steve's spine, ribcage, skull and other parts were also bionicized. With just a bionic arm his body wouldn't be able to lift things that weight a ton!

Not much of a reader, do not have the time and would not know where to find the book if I did.

Yeah, I know books are always more detailed and the movies don't always follow the books (although the Steve Austin from the books was very similar if not the same as in the movies). Check out "Cyborg" by Michael Caidin. There's a few of them, and they're quick reads.
In the first one they talk about it.
