I'm Japanese and I haven't learned pronaunciation from junior and high school teacher. I think the English lectures that Japanse teacher holds have some problems.
Because they are supposed to teach just grammer, reading and writing a little.
I hope a number of teachers that teach speaking and listening increase in Japan.

    I'll try. For now, here's a tip:
Remember that the two sounds are the same with the exception that /k/ is unvoiced and /g/ is voiced. Can you make /p/ and /b/? How about /t/ and /d/? If you can, then you understand the principle of stopping the airflow. With /p,b/ you use your lips. With /t,d/ you use the tip of your tongue and your upper teeth. With /k,g/ you use the back of your tongue and the roof of your mouth. Good luck!

How wonderful that you and your wife will share the rewarding work of teaching. I see the connection, by the way, between your positions as an air traffic controller and a teacher: both require effective communication. I think you'll enjoy the dynamics of the language classroom more, though!
