  • Did you mean to say ...

Did you mean to say it reflects negatively upon them?
I don't think you any less capable because you made a little grammatical error. The point is to educate the general publis about language. One variety is not inherently better than another. And MLK, yes. DT, no but he's not Black.

  • This is true, but ...

This is true, but that's aside from the point. 'Proper' English grammar and pronunciation is whatever version of English or any language that the power base is wielding. If you want that power (money or socioeconomic standing) you have to assimilate and tap into that. The rest of the world understands this, and so should we. Just speaking some version of English isn't even enough.

  • I don't necessarily ...

I don't necessarily like Fox News but there is nothing wrong with this message. Learning to speak the precise language of the sources from which you seek position or power is just common sense. It's as intuitive as say, a citizen of France learning English before he moves to the UK. People should stop being offended by this. People and employers judge you. Everyone judges. Get over it.

  • Wow...The previous ...

Wow...The previous comment made no sense to me whatsoever. But it's true that how you speak and how you dress will determine how people think of you and what their first impression will be. Right or wrong, it's very important.

  • Very good video. ...

Very good video. Once the African American know how to say many words properly, they will make great inroads in the business world. Any black who disagrees with this are only holding their own people down.

  • You do realize that ...

You do realize that this 'proper English' in America is a derivative of the British English, no? Would this be similar to whats happening in front of us?

  • Slaves were forced ...

Slaves were forced to give up their languages when they were wrested from their homeland and brought to this country. I therefore am not dismayed when they show a resistance to sfeaking English properly.

  • I have no problem ...

I have no problem with this being a black man, but dont just try to act like hispanics dont have spanglish, or white or asian ppl speak ebonics to. Its just like when the media only shows how education is failing poor blacks, when we know it is failing poor whites, asians, hispanics, & latinos also.

  • Absolutely. But ...

Absolutely. But that is not the norm.

Case and point: A rapper or talented music producer can operate at a high level of productivity and efficiency without speaking proper English, but you better believe the ancillary personnel that run the music companies (the "suits") most certainly do.
