  • Hip-Hop rarely ...

Hip-Hop rarely delivers a truly cohesive message. Often the philosophy is implicit rather than explicit. What you normally get is a lot of seemingly random rhymes colliding with one another with little or no narrative force. But if you are willing to read between the lines what you get is a kind of collage effect in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And from listening to Dead Prez I've never had the FEELING that they are motivated in any profound way by racism.

  • Well I've gone over ...

Well I've gone over a few of Dead Prez's lyrics and to be honest I have found nothing specific to support my claim. However they do often stress the importance of the class/economic distinction and, although they nevre say explicitly that this is more important than the racial distinction, I think the message is still there implicitly. Which brings me to my next point:

  • The school system ...

The school system F**ks everyone over, especially the poor, especially in America. People in first world countries lucky to get an education, but when given with a dose of propaganda like that creationism bullshit, it ruins the entire purpose. Segregation isn't the answer though. Just send all the people paying thousands of dollars in fees to normal schools, but make them fund the schools they go to.

as a white man, i agree almost completely with this. however, he calls out the white man as the oppressor. the problem is the ruling class, not necessarily white people. while the majority of the ruling class in america is white, being part of the ruling class is not an intrinsic part of being white.

  • Yeah the system by ...

Yeah the system by it's nature tries to tame the revolutionary spirit.
Although most university academics are a lot more radical and a lot less Euro-centric than many would believe, what they DO instill in people is the belief in the use of MODERATE means to acheive these goals.

  • Perhaps a ...

Perhaps a combination of the two. I mean a grass roots of say 400 people could convince a white politician to bring change but why not try go the direct route and BAM just replace him with a black politician? But then again someone that radical would NOT be allowed to rise that far in the system. I think you're right tho, grass roots must come first. But I still think the government would S**t itself if it saw all the young black people who DO want change with degrees in their pockets.

  • Well I can't really ...

Well I can't really argue with your grassroots point.
Just look what Gandhi did in India. A complete revolution, with A: no violence and B: no infiltration of the system.

About the gradual thing though...yeah perhaps that is what I'm putting forward. But only because I'm not sure I can see it happening by other means and in any case it needn't be THAT gradual. It could be within a generation.

  • that probably is ...

that probably is the most fundamental way, but you need to remember who owns these things.. i'm sure they've made it foolproof, as the system is only getting more complicated, and if somebody were to infiltrate, it'd probably happen long ago.
but i gotta disagree with you on the critical thinking part, because even in college you're only encouraged to invest your time in your majors, nothing else most of the time

I think what they saying is that the school system teaches some how to rule and others how to follow. Also I think they saying that you have a personal responsibility to educate yourself if you really wanna know how things go down in the real world.

Or you can C:actively organize and seek to influence the political process through popular grassroots movements advocating for social reform. However to some degree if you are not for radical social change immediately you are to some degree subscribing to a form of gradualism and reformism.

  • It's bigger than ...

It's bigger than America. This thing's been going on since the Greeks, thousands of years ago. After that it passed on to the Romans, then Western-Europe before jumping across the Atlantic to America.
It's more complex than anyone could ever imagine and simply saying "it's evil and it's going to fall" is far too simplistic.

  • I think when you ...

I think when you start getting to the higher levels of education more than ANYTHING you're taught to think critically. But that's missing the point completely. What I'm saying is that you can either A: destroy the system or B: infiltrate the system. There's no other choice. And the only way you can infiltrate the system is through the education process. It's time to stop dreaming and be pragmatic.

  • it honestly doesn't ...

it honestly doesn't have much to do with color

all i know is that the last thing the government wants is a nation of critical thinkers

school is the last thing that teaches to critically think, infact, its really the opposite in terms of do only what you're told, without having to use your brain, so you can talk about how much you hate education after.

    that really discourages critical thinking

  • Anyway the ...

Anyway the government's watching this with big smiles on their faces saying: We've got these fuckers just where we want them.
Because the LAST place they want to see a black man is in the educatio system.
    Why?
Because your level of education determines your place in society.
What would they rather see? An America where the political and legal system are made up of blacks? Or an America where blacks sit on their asses smoking weed and dreaming of a "revolution" that won't happen.

Yeah we like it in Europe. But we also know when to take it with a pinch of salt. A lot of what they say is the truth but some of it isn't. We're more critical over here.
