This video shows how to upgrade or replace a Hard Disk Drive in a Dell Notebook. The procedure is very similar in all Dell notebooks across the Latitude and Inspiron ranges.
Good video, thanks. However, my Latitude X300 requires me to open the entire casing and get under the keyboard! Uuurgh.

Enter your BIOs and go to 'Boot Menu'. This will show you a small list of bootable devices. Make sure that your CD drive is ABOVE the HDD.
Then save and exit the BIOs - making sure the CD is in the drive.
The laptop will then search to see if there is a CD in the drive, and boot from that, rather then the HDD first.
i put a new hdd in my dell laptop, the bios reads the hdd but when i try to boot from cd it says :no boot sector on internal HDD"
