  • I agree, Simon ...

I agree, Simon Rattle does look like a F*g Like look at his face @ 4:15, looks like someone got right up near that prostate.

On a side note I'm not sure I like the way Kavakos skates over a few passage (like the start), but then that's just his interpretation that he's entitled to I guess.

  • charming. yes that ...

charming. yes that is a good distinction, although at sometimes he has a certain agression which comes out (in a good way of course). Stage presence may also play a part. I always got the feeling watching Oistrakh that I was seeing a true-to-life mountain of sound and weight on the stage. I really love both of them, and I'm so glad I just recently discovered Kavakos for myself.

  • their school of ...

their school of violin is completely different. completely different time periods seperate their styles, just as in composition. it may be true that oistrakh believed in the composer, but he really didn't play exactly what was written. nowadays it is required. oistrakh's demeanor also is absolutely more agressive; kavakos, is more charming. it's never to say who's better, i think theyre both fabulous.

No one truly plays alike. but if someone was to compare oistrakh and kavakos, that would be ridiculous. their playing styles are complete polar opposites.
