    You only hear the IS when doing the preview - remember it only comes on normally when you take the photo - and that's just for a fraction of a second. See the comment below about face detection on a DSLR.

    Not really - it greatly reduces focusing and exposure errors when photographing people. And other DSLRs have it, but just don't show the box around the face, such as the Canon 450D / XSi.

    get D80 for sure, has pentaprism and motor for all nikon lenses. Its semi-pro DSLR.

    D40/40x/60 are toys for non-foto-interested amateurs.
