I've owned them both. Road my GS adventure to Alaska last year, back on a 990 this year. Search my profile to see videos of riding on both. BMW GSA is a great road bike, but an AWFUL offroad bike. KTM destroys the BMW off road, and does GREAT on the road, if it's setup right.

Having owned both, I'd take the KTM regardless of the price.

Maybe You guys should have mentioned, that the KTM is standard equiped with central stand and a disconectible ABS. And it is cheaper and 30 kg lighter, 21" front wheel, if you want, you can buy heated grips allso on the KTM... Next time, try to ask.

Decent review. I've got the 1200Adv and a 950SE. Some misconceptions though. The KTM isn't that much lighter. The KTM definitely feels more like a hot rod. The BMW is actually easier to ride off road in many cases because it has a lower center of gravity. The best thing about the BMW: nobody expects an old guy on a BMW to wheelie off down the road.

Got them both, very good bikes for the miles-eaters like me... but the KTM it's probably the funniest bike I've ever had in my entire life... so sad I had to give it away for money problem... :-(((

They're both called 'Adventure', but to be fair, the KTM Adventure should have been compaired to the regular BMW R1200GS, which is lighter and easier to manoeuvre. Bigger isn't always better.

Super informative, esp about the BMW signals, I would have never guessed.

2 wet wangs staying in hotels, cutting across a golf course, with only the most elementary understanding of the strengths of the bikes.

Great review. Deciding a long time between KTM and GS, ended up going with a KLR and change left over for a road bike :-)

They take the sacrifice so we don't have to. Makes me feel guilty when I mope about a bit of cold here in the winter time. Enjoyable review, I like them both, but if I had to have just one the BMW fits the bill.
