really im sorry to let you down but to let her sail again would cost more then it would to restore the ss united states which is next in the line to be restored. The reason is because they would not only have to get new boiler rooms but they would have to rebuild the hull and most of the bottom of the ship. She is already a floating hotel which is mostly the fate of all classic ocean liners and it is to late i mean they might as well let the qe2 sail instead of this fate.

You all have to think of the costs it would take to restore and even reproduce the boilers and engines on this ship. It is simply not feasible. Much of the equipment on board her is obsolete nowadays. Also her boilers ran on fuel oil and any type of liquid fuel during these days is rather expensive. True she is a grand lady, but I believe it's best she remain docked. She's done her duty. The reason she was retired in the first place is because of her age and the diesel engine took over.

I agree with maplewoodsp the city of Long Beach will have to do somthing about the Mary's lower hull plates. Before she sinks at her berth. Then they will really be looking at a big repair job. Thats the first thing I noticed when I was there in the summer of 1991. How the water was all rust coloured.

Also, if this ship is returned to sea it would be a financial failure if refurbished to her original self. todays passengers want big loud ships with every hight tech luxury possible.
So you would have rip up the ship apart and basically redesign her to look like the QM2, which you guys will hate. Just let her be, and if the hotel is failing which I hear it is, well, unfortunatley everything comes to an end and we must accept it.
