To witness lions eating is one of the best moments you can have on safari, but when does it become a little scary? Well, when you can't see the lions anymore!
These events took pace while on safari to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya, Africa.

(They do GREAT things for wildlife and the community.)

The big male lion featured in this video is wearing a radio collar. They are used at Lewa to help keep track of the lion and to aid them in various research projects. At times the lions eyes will glow. This is due to their special reflective layer called the tapetum lucidum. This helps cats see better much better than we do in the dark.
Even though we were in an open jeep, as long as we stayed quiet and within the outline of the jeep we were relatively safe. So they say.
Lions needs our help!
Please view these various sites for more lion information.

Good qustion. The male in the beginning was young, so he didn't have a big mane yet. But in some areas of Africa the mane will be larger than in others.

    No video :(
Hippo and tent incident was me being very quiet as mr hippo ate grass on my tent's doorstep at night. A little bug inside my head said to remain still and not reach for the flashlight, camera, and or video camera. The next morning, the camp's guide agreed it was a smart choice for me not to spook the hippo.

  • And for the record ...

And for the record all lions do commit cannibalism. Be it with a cheetah, leopard relative or with their own kind.

The only difference is they don't call it cannibalism, they call it survival :)

    A lion eating a cougar?
Isn't that the same thing as cannibalism?
A cat eating another member of the cat family seems like it is.

It was very fun and exciting, as at Lewa to see lion is a challange at times due to their low numbers there. I am glad the video came out, because the picture didn't.
    Thanks for watching!
