Dear ol dave only wrote the music to parts that he sang.....the rest was done collectively or by Waters. Gilmour wrote no lyrics to this song.......thus the majority credit should actually be given to Waters.

if you heard the demo to this song......only a half witted fool whould think it belongs to Gilmour. Roger turned this into a CLASSIC...nice try thinking Gilmour created a Classic on his own!?!

Absolutely right, we could say other pink floyd songs that could be performed without Gilmour, but Comfortably Numb has Gilmour's soul...although Waters wrote the lyrics, Gilmour takes the lead by far in this song. anyway, i respect Waters creative power and lyrics, but he wrote his best songs with Gilmour's music touch

Playing guitar is like signing your name. No two guitar players sound the same, because no two people can touch the fretboard the same exact way. Each person has their own sound. Some might not be as distinct as others, but it is there. In my opinion, Gilmour's playing and tone is very distinct. I can hear a song and say "Yep, that's Dave." This song can be played wonderfully, but without Gilmour's playing it just isn't the same.
