Railroad Spike Knife

It's pretty simple; it just takes a while to get the hang of it. I sharpen it with the belt sander, then with whetstones by hand, and finally with a steel.

is this simple in a way and what are the tools used to sharpen it?

Andy congratulation and you are ritgh, water is the best medium in which to quench the Railroad spikes.
oil is for 5160, 420, 440

dont want to be an asshole but wear safty glasses if a spark ot chip flies off well there goes ur eye and vacumes S**k and blow

This only holds true when working with steel of a higher carbon content. Railroad spikes are about .05% carbon, so in this case, water is the best medium in which to quench the knives.

you should cool the knife in oil a couple of times motor oil works good but be careful... this will help with the hardness and help keep the knife sharper longer..
