This project was created to inspire teachers to use technology in engaging ways to help students develop higher level thinking skills. Equally important, it serves to motivate district level leaders to provide teachers with the tools and training to do so.
The are more honor students in china than people on north america? That cannot be true.. that would mean at least 40% of China is on the honor roll right now. I have a hard time believing that
By ignignok1337 [Affiliate User] 1208413922 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDo you not think our children's lives can be enhanced and expanded "by the four sides of a screen" rather than confined by them?
IT can encourage our children to question. It does not need to be addictive or controlling if we as educators (that includes parents and caregivers) encourage a balance.
As the video states, let the students ANALYSE and EVALUATE. Let them THINK about the impact technology has on them and in doing so LET THEM CREATE.
This looks like propaganda. Teach me to think? Does holding up placards written by someone else teach you to think?
We need to teach children to question to what extent we control technology or whether we let technology control us. To be aware of the tendency to be addicted to IT, where there is little risk of being hurt and little risk of feeling alive.
Do we want our chidren to engage with life - its joys and tribulations; or with worlds confined to the four sides of a screen?
I think this video is thought-provoking. The question is where do we go from here.
Does the current means and methods of providing education work? If so, why can the process reach more students? If not, what can we do to ensure we are doing all we can to reach all of our young people?
Hmmm? By 2016 there will be more Chinese speaking English than Americans: Did they learn to speak English with technology or by "rote" leaning in a classroom?
Hmmm? There are more honor students in China than there are people in the US: Did they become honor students because of technology or through hard work?
Adults? lol I agree with this video, and i'm 18. You young kids are morons when it comes to this kind stuff, like tyrrhenai said you can't even use punctuation marks and you're 12 i'm assuming, and you're just retarded if you have to learn from technology, learn how to read an actual book and write in the classical ways, unless you want to be lame and poor.

Kids also in my mind shouldnt be taught via computers and such technology so young

Ask a CEO 20-30 years from now what skills will be lacking. Assuming that communicating is simply a matter of words or writing is so 20th century. This video has its heart in the right place.

By dkaysa [Affiliate User] 1207120839 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWho mentioned anything about addiction? I use technology everyday to carry on conversations. Sometimes it's easier to truthfully communicate through print rather than orally. Less hesitence, less anxiety involved. P.S. if you don't watch at least 16hours of television a week you are in the minority group. In addition, visual media can teach too ya' know. Especially for "visual learners". You must be an auditory learner I take it.

By dkaysa [Affiliate User] 1207119016 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm a teacher that agrees with you but at the same time "reading" will help you with your punctuation and sentence structure. In a high tech world, these simplicities will forever be invaluable. Ignorance never provails! You're on the right track, but it never hurts to be one step ahead. Keep learning!
By dkaysa [Affiliate User] 1207117207 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThey're not failing, you are. It's a teachers job to motivate and stimulate. True "teachers" always find a way. Kids don't fail, we fail them. Students are lazy and bored because they aren't challenged. If you don't agree,I guess you're not one of the intelligent ones. Get off "YOUR LAZY ASS", quit complaining and make a difference... or get out!
By dkaysa [Affiliate User] 1207116376 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhat grade do you teach? if you are telling children that their professors or employers wont like their behavior, then you should look no farther for the problem to why you cant motivate your kids.
By thErusteDbunnY [Affiliate User] 1207029644 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHow did you manage to write an entire paragraph without using even a single punctuation mark? It's exactly this kind of piss-poor English that makes people want to discourage the use of texting and IMing and such.
By Tyrrhenai [Affiliate User] 1206875349 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe video didn't clarify this, but I think many of those statements (for example the 2 hours a week reading a book) are statistics from a study. The video is not commending it, just telling it like it is. At least, that was my understanding.
By kypaints [Affiliate User] 1206862245 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei think you adults just have to get with it cause the stuff you guys have us do in class just bores us and plus we multi task we can text message and listen to what is being taught i really think you guys are just really scared cause you guys want to have control over everything so just get with it and stop being lame or we wont learn anything i don't use any of my text for my assignments i use the web for all only because i could understand that info but i don't get what's in the text book
By gachster12 [Affiliate User] 1206775198 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove"And, most ridiculous of all, why would you want to encourage kids to text or podcast?"
I agree wholeheartedly. Why would you want a student to be creative? This only leads to sharing their ideas with others. Put the iPod away, and start reading Dick and Jane as you should. My students must conform to the way I learned, it's MY classroom, not theirs.
Come on people, stop running from technology and find ways to use it in your classroom.
I think it's better to teach kids to carry on a conversation, interact with other people, and not expect the world to conform to their addiction. Technology is incredible and useful, but to an extent. I also find it disturbing that this project uses as its basis kids who spend TWO hours reading a book, but SIXTEEN watching TV.
By pjihae [Affiliate User] 1206557946 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBelieve it or not, I'm a student, albeit a student who should have been born ten years earlier. Of course, different students respond to different learning strategies in different ways; congratulations on your success. In my opinion, however, my peers are way too addicted to technology, to the point of rudeness and laziness. My lit teacher was talking to us about the irony of this video not having any talking in it.
By pjihae [Affiliate User] 1206557935 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI am a high school teacher who uses podcasting & other technology in my classroom. Several teachers wrote grants and believed in this "idea" that through technology students might be more engaged. You CAN teach your students to create, think independently, and keep them motivated to learn. My classroom is a success story; however, you must have the right attitude in order for it to be successful. Get it in your school & learn to use it. My students are engaged!
By mkgrif82 [Affiliate User] 1206556870 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm a teacher, and I have the technology in my classroom. I also have students who are lazy and disinterested and refuse to learn. They want to listen to their ipods and sleep. Then when they are failing, they want to know why. I remind them regularly "this won't work in your jobs" "college professors don't care if you fail" The kids just don't care. I am at my wits' end trying to figure out how to engage them. Why do our kids think learning is a waste of energy?
By funeygrl [Affiliate User] 1206550342 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhen did gaming, IMing, rotting the brain with TV, and listening to a book on an iPod rather than reading become commendable? And, most ridiculous of all, why would you want to encourage kids to text or podcast? It's already as though they're attached to their iPods and cell-phones. It would be a better use of time to teach them to rest their thumbs, get their earbuds out of their ears, and actually take effort to engage themselves rather than ask the world to become engaging for them.
By pjihae [Affiliate User] 1206547075 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAnd every one of these signs had things that you should not be proud of,that come from being a technological world. So how is this convincing teachers to use technology? Technology is meant to make certain things easier,to change things that need to be changed in our world. The point of it is NOT to replace our culture,to make EVERYTHING easier. Whoevre made this video, you were NOT thinking of what using technology is schools could do to our later generations.
